When we were young, and starting out in the gift basket business, our Mother graciously allowed us to work from her home.  After finishing university, Mother gave us a roof over our heads and allowed us to gradually fill her house from floor to ceiling with wicker gift baskets, and the gift contents of those baskets.  Mother then allowed us to turn 50% of her home into an office, studio and gift basket assembly area, and her garage became our gift basket warehouse.  At one point she had a 40ft storage container in her driveway filled with wicker gift baskets, a gazebo in her garden for assembly space, and wicker hampers stored in her bedroom.  

Our Mother is a character.  She is also a truly generous, patient and wonderful human being!  Mum is pictured in the below photo, exerting her strict quality control standards on the flowering plants being despatched for Mother's Day Gifts last year.  Did we mention she's very green fingered?

A Quick History of UK Mother’s Day Gifts and Fathers Day Gifts

Wherever you are in the world - we are here to be of service for Mother's Day Gifts.  The majority of our customers adhere to the UK Mother's Day Gifts dates of March, as they want their Mother to receive her gift alongside all the other Mums.  
But we do send a lot of "International Mother's Day Gifts too.  Whether that's because the purchaser had forgotten it was the UK Mother's Day a couple of months beforehand we wouldn't like to comment on!

UK Mother’s Day celebrations often take our international customers by surprise, as the date differs from other parts of the world.  Here in the UK Mothers Day is celebrated in March, in the 4th week of Lent, as historically it was a time when the faithful would return to their “mother church”—the main church in the vicinity of their home—for a special service.  Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.  In most other parts of the world Mother’s Day is celebrated in the second week of May, and it’s origins date back to the 19th century. In the years before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis helped start “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs" to teach local women how to properly care for their children.  Following her mother’s death in 1905 her daughter, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.  It became an officially recognised holiday in the USA in 1914.  The rest of the world followed suit, after Hallmark the greetings card  gift company helped to commercialise Mother’s Day as the annual gift occasion that it is today.

Father’s Day falls in the same month of June across the world. In the UK this is the 3rd Sunday of June.  Unlike Mother’s Day it is a relatively new gift occasion, officially recognised in 1975.  The idea of a special day to honour Fathers and celebrate Fatherhood was conceived in the United States. A lady named Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother's Day celebrations to plan a day to honour fathers. Father's Day Gifts has been celebrated in June since 1910.
Many Father's look at Father's Day with disdain, and say things like "don't waste your money on me."  But of course it's important to ignore them, as send them an amazing Father's Day Gift as they'll be secretely delighted.

At Basketsgalore our entire business philosophy is built around the premise of offering interesting gifts that can be adapted and catered to a specific individual.  Whether that be their personality and interests, or simply just their relationship to you.  Our very first website, built in 2004 featured a create-your-own-gift-basket form.  This put the power in our customer’s hands.  They were able to tick boxes allowing them to choose what they wanted to go in their gift basket.  We would create the basket based on their selection, photograph it for their approval, and hey presto a gift basket was designed.  After a while, we noticed common themes, and developed our own range of gifts based on what customers were asking for.  

Fast forward almost 20 years and we still offer this level of personalisation.  Customers are welcome to order a “Custom Basket” and choose the contents from a range of available options.  We truly believe these real customer requests, and genuine feedback has enabled us to succeed in the ultra competitive gift market place.  Nothing is too much trouble.  Please just contact us with your requests.

Always Open, Never Closed

We’re delighted to be able to provide an all year round gift basket and hamper gift service.  Lovely customer reviews and positive feedback has always been a motivational driver for us, however it was the lockdowns of the covid pandemic that made us hyper aware of the societal impact our little gift delivery service could have.  Humanity’s desire to connect and stay in touch was never more apparent than during that time.  To say we were inundated is putting it lightly, we've never been so busy!  Thankfully we made it work with a small core team of staff, working very long hours - and even had to get the kids "helping" to box.  The requests for food gifts and care packages destined for elderly parents and vulnerable Grandparents who were shielding, wasn't something we could ignore.  Although it was a strange time, filled with so many unknowns, we were actively involved in helping those that needed to to "keep safe" and for that we felt useful and thankful.

We think it's important to offer a service all year round, not just in the busy Christmas trading period.  There are many hamper companies that only exist to service the Xmas market and come out to hoover up readily available business. 
We choose not be like them, and we hope that we will reap some rewards by providing a year round service.  So far we have via customer loyalty.   We look forward to continuing on providing a gift service that can be relied on for another decade or two!
