Valentine’s Day is thought to have started life as a Christian feast celebrating the life of a Saint named Valentinus. Although there is some mystery surrounding the origin, as there was more than one saint named this and the stories surrounding their ending were somewhat gory.

The poet Chaucer, and later the play write Shakespeare helped to romanticise the occasion with their works. Handmade cards were exchanged as tokens of love in the middles ages. It wasn’t until 1913 that Hallmark in the US began to mass produce Valentine’s cards. According to the Gift Card Association, approximately $1 billion Valentine cards are now sent each year, making it the 2nd largest card exchanging occasion after Christmas.

Being in the gift industry we of course celebrate Valentine’s Day by creating a range of Valentine Gift Baskets. Some people prefer to stick to simple cards or small token gifts, while some go all out with big romantic gestures and surprises. We like to think that our Valentine Gifts are somewhere in between the two. They aren’t just a token gift as we are well informed that receiving one gives the buyer some serious brownie points. They also aren’t too over the top and will only cause mild embarrassment if one arrives at their workplace.

In our early years (over 20 years ago now) we went with a cute and cuddly theme, keeping things simple with teddies and chocolates/fizzy wine.

We then branched out into Valentine's Gifts For Men and had a range of beer, nuts and cheese hampers featuring a cuddly friend such as a frog or monkey.

Fast forward a few years and we turned a bit adventurous with the inclusion of more quirky items and spicy foods.

In the last couple of years we have themed our Valentine's Baskets further, rather than offering only Valentine's Gifts For Her and Valentine's Gifts For Him. We can now theme Valentines Gifts for girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, partners, soulmate and friend etc. We achieve this with personalised mugs and gift cards.

For 2020, we decided to bring back some romantic favourites alongside our personalised Valentine's gifts and therefore offering our biggest Valentine Gift range to date.

A Valentine's Gift Basket might not have crossed your mind as a potential gift idea for Valentine's Day before, but we hope we have provided some romantic gift inspiration here so you might try one in the future.
