In the BasketsGalore office we have a bit of a wishlist of features we would like our website and eCommerce system to have. These are often things that would make our job easier and/or make shopping easier for the customer. The shopping cart/checkout system is a major part of any eCommerce store and up until recently we having been using the standard one that comes with the Magento platform. We had of course made minor adjustments to it over the years, like adding a gift card field, comments box, delivery date calendar and helpful text. We had often researched new modules that would improve the cart further, but they weren't suitable or would clash for one reason or another. There's also never a good time to launch a new checkout on a live site, as there are bound to be teething problems which could lead to you losing some orders. So during the summer when the redesign of the website was being planned, top of our list was to roll out the new checkout at the same time. We had picked a lovely new template and it came with a recommend shopping cart. Jonny (in our IT dept)  got to work testing it, but it turned out that it wasn't the best fit. I looked back at the research I'd carried out a few months before and picked out an alternative cart which seemed to solve all out problems. The new cart is by onestepcheckout and was easy to integrate with all our various add-ons. The option we went with also came with support and updates and so any queries or problems we had were answered ASAP.We think the one step checkout will make things more simple, rather than having to click through the 5 previous steps. Sometimes our customers were getting the billing and shipping addresses mixed up or missing the gift card message step when clicking forwards and backwards through the checkout stages. Now all the steps are in the one place, on one page, so it takes out the element of mistakes and makes it easier for you to check the information you have included.one step checkoutWe also got our wish for a fancy shipping calendar! It really is very smart now and warns customers that fruit or salmon baskets cannot be delivery on Mondays, and that for next day deliveries the £7.99 shipping option must be selected. Saturday deliveries are now much easier to select as the calendar informs you of the correct price for a Saturday date.We hope you approve of the new checkout and please do get in touch if you see any issues or have any suggestions.
