Our New Baskets Galore Warehouse Team MemberThe latest member of the Baskets Galore Team is 21 year old Johnny. Johnny attended Bangor College and studied a Higher National Diploma in Computing for two years, following a passion in computers and gadgets he has had for many years. In his spare time (limited as it is!), he likes to socialize with his friends at the weekend and go on country walks with his dog.Johnny first found out about BasketsGalore when we were advertising for temporary Christmas cover to help us with the high demand of orders needing to be processed and dispatched within a short time frame. We take on extra office and warehouse staff in December and Johnny's skills were matched with the warehouse dispatch team.Johnny was able to cope well under pressure at the busiest time of the year, Christmas of course! He commented that working in the warehouse was, “ physically challenging yet rewarding work” as staff are constantly on the move; selecting, assembling and dispatching the Gift Baskets and Hampers for our courier companies to collect. As we have now successfully passed through the busiest time of the year for Baskets Galore, the numbers of daily dispatches reduce a bit until the next big occasion such as Valentine's Day. Although throughout the year we are still busy dispatching thank you, get well, new baby and birthday gifts etc. it is not quite as busy as December and so Johnny has a little spare time to also put his computing skills to use in office. This allows him the opportunity to keep updating his skill set and help Simon (our IT genius lol) out with the daily maintenance and running of the websites. Johnny said that the two job roles are completely different. He describes the warehouse as “physically challenging” whilst the office role is more “mentally challenging” but he is happy to be given this opportunity to become multi skilled. Most staff at BasketsGalore can do at least 2 roles so that there is holiday cover and people to assist in other areas as required. 20140123_095951When I asked Johnny what he sees himself doing in several years he explains, “I would like to assist in having the warehouse running to its full potential,  helping the company to grow. If the expansion of the warehouse means that we can help make more jobs available in-house I would be extremely happy, helping the community by creating extra employment.”Johnny has lots of suggestions for improving the warehouse structure over the coming months that will require some adjustment, but in the long run he believes these changes will increase efficiency and cut costs for Baskets Galore. Can't say fairer than that! As a firm believer in "do something right or don't do it at all", we can safely say Johnny has the right mindset for the Baskets Galore working environment.A huge welcome and good luck to the newest member of the BG Team!
